Joanne Kern Ph.D., DNP, APRN, ANP-BC, is an assistant professor of nursing and the Coordinator of the Adult and Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Concentration at Maryville University. Prior to joining Maryville University, Dr. Kern maintained a clinical practice in neurosurgery in the metropolitan area.

Dr. Kern is passionate about health literacy. Throughout her career, Dr. Kern witnessed how a new diagnosis can overwhelm any individual, regardless of age or education level. She understands without considering the whole individual and their cultural background; there is little chance the individual will fully understand the health information. Her commitment to making sure providers hear the geriatric voice and patient-centered care has led Dr. Kern to become part of the faculty who teach future health care providers. Dr. Kern partners her extensive nursing career to academia to continue to advance the nurse practitioner profession.

His experience includes clinical and managerial roles that have equipped him to be among the leaders of this groundbreaking effort at the Ozzie Smith IMAC Regeneration Center. Bouldin understands that medicine alone does not always fix the problem. “For years I have known that referring to chiropractic and physical therapy completed the care that I could give to a patient,” Bouldin says. “But now, being able to actually practice it in a medical model where we are accessible to one another under one roof is truly ideal for me.” Bouldin has been a leader amongst his peers, presenting at several conferences and symposiums over the course of his career. Among his primary goals for the new clinic is the chance to pioneer and publish functional-based research as well.

Margaret R. Benz, ANP-BC, FAANP is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Saint Louis University. She sees patients as an APRN in the St. Louis Housing Authority’s Parkview Clinic. She received her BSN (1978), MSN(R) (1982), and Adult Nurse Practitioner Post-Masters Certificate (1995) all from Saint Louis University. Margaret was Governor Nixon’s appointee to MO Health Net Oversight Committee 2010 – 2019 serving as vice chair from 2014 -2019. Margaret has received awards for Teaching Excellence at Saint Louis University, St. Louis Magazine’s Nursing Excellence Award for Community Care, March of Dimes Nurse of the Year Award for Teaching Excellence, AANP State Excellence Award, MONA Nurse of the Year and a Volunteerism award from President Obama for community service.
